Case Overview
Pichu is a 10-year-old outdoor cat with a fading appetite and difficulty chewing. When his family noticed, they knew something wasn’t right. On examination, we found severe dental disease, along with significant dehydration. Pichu needed more than just basic care.
We took him in for hospitalization, allowing our team to stabilize and monitor him closely. From there, we began planning each and every next step with his safety in mind.
Diagnosis & Decision
Blood tests revealed an unexpected result. Pichu had severe renal failure, with dangerously high toxin levels in his blood. At that point, anesthesia was no longer safe. We had to act fast.
Because the situation was critical and the prognosis was highly uncertain, we immediately shifted our focus to intensive medical treatment. Pichu’s family agreed to begin treatment.
The Procedure
Dr. Nenad wanted to support Pichu’s kidneys first to clear the toxic buildup in his body. The plan was to administer treatment, then conduct follow-up blood tests. Pichu stayed with us at the clinic for close monitoring and round-the-clock care.
After the first week, his blood tests showed remarkable improvement, giving us renewed hope. By the end of two weeks of dedicated care, his values had returned to their normal limits. Pichu was finally strong enough for his dental procedure, which we performed under anesthesia.
The Road to Recovery
In the following days, Pichu was strong enough to return home with his family. He returned for a follow-up checkup two weeks later, looking like a completely different cat: happy and full of life. He was indeed a cat who stood against the odds.
